The World Reborn In Sight

Description

'The World Reborn' is my digital remake of 'The World' ([link]), a picture I drew with pencils a few years back.

The difference, other than the cleanliness of the quality, is that I screwed up when I was doing the line-work: I didn't leave enough room for the iris of the eye, the part that had the orca and the mermaid.
So I improvised.
I zoomed in a little with the pupil, the part with the tree and the sunset, and added a little bit of story to it. So think of this as the future version of 'The world'.

The second horizon is the line of the upper lid of the eye. The picturesque area that used to be the pupil is now the iris. The sun and lake together make the new pupil. The river is the tears, presumably shed for the creatures that died. The mountains are the white of the eye. The lighter line of green is the area where the grass has been over-watered. The grass and snow are on the hill. The hill is the cheek. The sky is the upper lid, all the way up to the brow line.

'The World Through Her Eyes' became too big to be contained. The pond has overflowed and drowned out the path as well as the tiny little critters. The mouse and the snake have died, and the butterflies were eaten by the owl, who then flew off to find more fruitful hunting lands.
The pond has become a lake, flowing out as a river down the grassy hill. The lake has pushed the borders of the land too far and the ocean has disappeared. The snow has avalanched down one of the two surrounding mountain peaks and covered the hill on one side of the river.
The blood red sunset has swelled and forced the sky of The World to burst past the second horizon. The spirits of the little critters and sea creatures that died have flown up to watch over the place they once called home. The spirits have become the stars.

Both works are incredible. Though, I personally like the traditional one better too. Mostly because of the amount of details, plus, I am also a fan of pictures that look a little more 'rough', without the smoothness of a digital work. But hey, that is just me! I also liked the idea here, and the way you turned the eye into something so different, that mixes with the background while it tells a story to the viewer. Also, the colors you've used for the sunset are gorgeous.

By the way, as a small tip, try not to make abrubt changes of color (for example, the line between the eye that suddenly changes from light green to a much darker tone). I know it is supposed to highlight a specific part of the picture, but when you have such a big amount of dark green it turns the hill into a bidimensional plain object. The best way to fix this is by making more subtile transitions of tones, and also adding random "spots" of darker and lighter tones too, since it gives the feel of a terrain with different heights, or even with different kinds of grass.

Oh, and also, considering that the "pupil" is one of the most important parts of the picture, if not the center of attention, I'd highly suggest you to create your own watermark and put it somewhere else on the picture, for example in a corner. That way people can appreciate the whole picture at it's best =)
